Individual and group educational learning programs
Our method is interest based. Using the children’s individual interests we carefully plan our day, week and forward plan monthly activities.
Throughout the day children are provided a choice of toys, learning activities and much more. From children’s interactions with their peers, educators and world around them, educators observe and record this information in a variety of formats. The information captured is then used to create further experiences that your child will find interesting. Arts and craft are provided daily.
Our outdoor area provides children the opportunity to explore natural and manmade materials. Children enjoy our large play areas consisting of sand pits, bike tracks, cubby houses, slides, forts, balance beams, gardens and wide range of toys and play equipment.
Indoors is set up in a way to ensure the children have room to play and explore. Areas for block play, quiet play, imaginative play, dramatic play and much more are set up so children can have choice in what they want to do. Learning areas are set up regularly like an office, doctor's office, school, library, post office, bank and much more where children can role play. Special learning tables are also used for displaying special equipment such as insects and sea creatures that the children can explore by touch and sight.
We regularly plan excursions and incursions. Families will be notified well in advance of these occurring. An extensive excursion plan and risk assessment is carried out prior to all events. Excursions and incursions are selected based on children’s interest, special events within the service or community or availability.
Each room has a weekly planned activities program displayed within the room. Each day staff record a program journal of what activities, conversation etc have occurred. This program journal is then used in planning the educational program. The program journals are written using our web based programming tool QKEYLM. This is then printed out and displayed for families. Photos are also applied to the program journal before it is then printed. Permission is sought for photos to be taken and used within the program journal. This permission is sought within the enrolment form. Please be advised that no persons other than staff can access the programming.
Portfolios are a folder for art & craft to be stored in so families don’t feel like they have to put all their child’s artwork on the fridge. Families can view this at any time. At the end of each year the art work is taken out and given to families. The portfolios are then started again.

Learning Journals
This is where educators store individual children’s learning stories, planned activities and any other relevant information relating to individual children’s learning. Each individual child’s learning cycle is clearly planned out, evaluated and further experiences planned for each child. Educator’s notes and learning stories they’ve written about your child and any other information, artwork samples, photos etc are stored within this learning journal. Photos are a big part within the children’s learning journals as this gives you more information about your child’s progress against the 5 EYLF learning outcomes. Learning journals are sent home at different times throughout the year. If a child leaves the service, we will send the learning journal home on their last attending day. Families can request to view their child’s learning journal at any time. Assessments of learning are produced twice per year. This gives a brief over view of how each child is currently working towards achieving the 5 EYLF outcomes. All children will be achieving or working towards achieving these outcomes at a different speed to other children. If you require further assistance with understanding the assessment of learning you can arrange a time to meet with the qualified educator and educational leader to discuss this.
How can you as a Family be involved in the educational program planning?
- You can fill in the questionnaire you will receive within your enrolment pack. By completing this questionnaire you will provide the educators with some basic information which will then be used to plan for your child’s orientation period.
- You are more than welcome to email photos or short notes about special events within your child’s life. EG: We went to England to visit grandma and here are some photos of Fred playing in the snow.
- You can record on a post stick note to educator’s things that you may wish your child to participate in during their time at the centre. Please note not all suggestions can be followed up on all the time.
- You can fill in boxes on the Family Involvement program located in each room. Please see one of the friendly staff members within your child’s room.
- Attend events held by the centre throughout the year and provide feedback where requested.
- Inform us of events or family situations where we can further assist you.
- Keep us up to date with family situations.
- Complete questionnaires that are sent home throughout the year.
